Redeemer's Ministry

The Ministry of Redeemer

The ministry of Redeemer is about welcoming all in the name of Christ. We try to be an island of grace in a world where people are inundated with conditional relationships and are judged based on their perceived worth. In this way, we anticipate the Dominion of God where people are one community regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, life experience, gender identification, or any other characteristic that can be used to segregate humanity.

Mission Statement

To be followers of Jesus, sharing God’s love with all.

Vision Statement

We are building a community of faith based on Scripture and Lutheran tradition, opening ourselves to the full spectrum of diversity, connecting with each other and our neighbors, and working toward the enrichment of our community and our world.

Redeemer Values

  • God's unconditional love
  • Good News integrity
  • Forgiveness and reconciliation
  • Empowering worship
  • Maturing in Christ
  • Diversity
  • Mutual caring
  • Welfare of all

Reconciling In Christ Program

Redeemer is a Reconciling in Christ congregation. Redeemer welcomes gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people upon making the common statement of faith into full participation in the life of the congregation. The congregation voted to adopt the Reconciling In Christ Affirmation of Welcome.

Worship Life

The worship life of Redeemer is rich and reflects a variety of styles and cultures, while still being true to the Lutheran worship tradition and experience. Any Sunday worship service may be enhanced by voices of the adult choir and the children's choir, or the music from the bell choir, organ, piano, guitar, or other special instruments.

We normally use the Lutheran Book of Worship, but also make use of With One Voice monthly as well as The Hymnal Supplement - 1991. Holy Communion is celebrated weekly and the Rite of Healing is normally scheduled for the second Sunday of each month.

Multicultural Commitment

Redeemer has a strong commitment to be a multicultural community. Redeemer is located in a racially diverse neighborhood and is close to I-70, which draws people from throughout the Central Ohio area. As such, there is an intentional effort to redefine Lutheranism and Lutheran worship beyond its traditional European roots. Many of the hymns and choir pieces reflect the world-wide nature of the Christian experience.

Youth

Redeemer has a strong youth program. A youth group for people from pre-school through 8th grade is active and usually has one activity each month. The Luther League (our High School-aged group) is also very active, sponsoring events such as overnights, service projects to the community and to the congregation, outings, and trips to the National Youth Gatherings, held every four years.

B.R.E.A.D.

Redeemer is a member of the B.R.E.A.D. organization, an interfaith, multi-denominational group based in Central Ohio which seeks to address core public issues pertaining to crime, safety, jobs, poverty, and education. The mission of the B.R.E.A.D. organization is to draw together people of faith to act powerfully on local issues of justice and fairness through the process of relationship building, direct action, and negotiation with decision makers.
