The Reign of God as Nevertheless. Comments to: adebelak@redeemerluth.com

The Reign of God as nevertheless rejects the inevitable and disappoints the predictable. I find that nevertheless needs to unfold. Most often it is not realized or seen until a later time. That is why we tell stories. That is why there is a record of those times when we happened to live into the nevertheless that resisted the stream of life as it was going along the way. The Reign of God as nevertheless is what we see in the stories of Jesus. He embodies a real presence of nevertheless. When you are not to touch some folks - for what was thought many very good reasons in that day - nevertheless Jesus touches them as friend - as equalas brother or sister - as beloved. Too often we do not let ourselves visit the land of nevertheless. We dare not cross over into life that is not what the prevailing tone of the day expects. Therefore, there can be no community of nevertheless - no living body of God's Reign making all things new. The Reign of God as nevertheless is a community of people who have seen or heard that there is a way into a new life for someone has already gone there and was willing to refute stories of stability with a simple movement of nevertheless.

O God of New Life and All Hopefulness, we are blessed daily by the power of your Spirit that urges us and moves us to go beyond what is and take hold of your promise of new life. Praise be to you, O God. Amen.
