BREAD (Building Respect, Equality, and Dignity) is a nonprofit, faith-based organization made up of nearly 50 congregations of various faiths that work together in pursuit of justice. Members’ concerns are researched, and then workable solutions are pursued with local decision makers.

The process involves home meetings, research subgroups, and three community-wide meetings that build momentum for the annual Nehemiah Action meeting, which brings several thousand supporters together to demand action from those decision makers.

Current focus areas include gun violence, restorative practices, municipal ID, affordable housing, and environmental justice. Numerous accomplishments have occurred in these and other areas, including education, transportation, neighborhood cleanup, health care, and mental health.
